ABORTION IN AMERICA

Government Approved Killing

January 22, 2005 marks the 32nd anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. This controversial Supreme Court decision, where "Jane Roe" sued Texas Attorney General Henry Wade, set the legal groundwork for a woman in the U.S. to have an abortion on demand, and for any reason. Prior to 'Roe v. Wade', many states outlawed abortion except in cases where the mother’s life was in danger.

The most common abortion procedures used today are the horrendous processes of suctioning using an extremely powerful vacuum and hose, and the actual surgical dismembering of a live fetus in the mother’s womb!

The actual statistics regarding the number of "legal" abortions since Roe v. Wade is out-and-out shocking! Since 1973, approximately 45 million unborn babies have been killed by government approved abortions in the United States alone. That's about thirty times the number of Americans soldiers that have been killed in ALL of America's wars, from the American Revolution, to the current war in Iraq COMBINED!

These grave statistics also show that about one third (15 million) of those babies killed were "African American" (Hebrew Israelite). Obviously, the disproportionate number of 'black' babies being "aborted" is no coincidence...

One revealing development in the abortion issue are the current activities of "Jane Roe", the plaintiff in the original case, whose real name is Norma McCorvey. McCorvey became a Christian in 1995, and is now a staunch anti-abortion advocate. After her conversion, she made a commitment to "serving the Lord and helping women save babies."

The issue of abortion has also deeply impacted me on a personal level...

Last year, my wife's 15 year-old daughter was living with her biological father. He let her run wild, and as a result she became pregnant by a 16 year-old young man. Her father was angry and demanded that she have an abortion. She then went to an abortion clinic for an initial consultation, but didn't get the abortion.

Later, she came to my wife and I and informed us of her situation, and sought our counsel. We told her that abortion was wrong and against the law of YHWH. I told her if she were living with us she wouldn't be in this situation. She smiled in knowing I had spoken truth. We told her that we are aware that she is immature, and not really in the best position to be a mother; however, we will help her raise the baby.

As a result of our influence, she decided to not have an abortion. Her decision made her biological father furious. As a result, she is now living with us. The young man who impregnated her lives with his grandmother. She is a well-educated, retired school principal, and a professing Christian who attends church and bible study regularly.

As my wife talked to her regarding the situation, she was astonished by her response. This so-called well educated, pillar of society was adamant about 'getting rid' of the child by having an abortion. My wife told the elderly woman that she would not tell her daughter to kill her baby, and have the blood of an innocent child on her hands. The grandmother said, 'let the blood be on my hands, she needs to catch the next plane to the nearest abortion clinic!'

What’s even more outrageous, is that this woman, who professes to be a Christian, actually accused me of wrongdoing, because we influenced our daughter into not killing the unborn child. The conversation ended when I rebuke her by declaring, 'YOU KNOW THAT ABORTION IS WRONG! YOU'RE JUST TRYING TO JUSTIFY KILLING THIS BABY! YOU'RE WALKING IN DARKNESS!"

That exchange reminded me of the words of the prophet Isaiah, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20).

We as the household of faith must no longer allow this issue to be seen solely as a plank in the right-wing Republican platform. We must take a strong moral stand against the shedding of innocent blood, period. And we must seek to order our families not according to the law of the land, but strictly according to the law of Mashiach and the legacy of the great patriarchs of the faith.

As it is written, "Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate." (Psalms 127:3-5).
